Claudia had pieces of a Roomba, an old alarm clock, three digital recorders, and a vintage sewing machine spread out on the floor of her side of the room.

What can you build with a Roomba, an old alarm clock, three digital recorders, and a vintage sewing machine?

She'll tell you just as soon as she finishes putting it together and finding out.

And so it came to be that a blind red-headed girl wearing a mismatched outfit of a sweater, sweatpants, an oversized t-shirt and socks came a-knocking on Claudia's door. With a pitiful look on her face.

"Claudia?" she called out as tapped her cane on the floor. "You there?"

Claudia didn't recognize that voice at all -- but had been here long enough to know that that didn't mean anything. She hopped up, dodging around the larger metal bits of sewing machine on the floor, and opened the door.

". . . You're not going to claim I'm your mother, are you?"

What? You could never tell on this island.

"... Uh. No," Matt said with a confused expression on his face. "However I will claim to be Matt who believe it or not has turned into a girl."

"And might need some help."

Claudia relaxed with a smile and pushed the door the rest of the way open. "Oh, is that all. Come on in." She looked at all the stuff on the floor and winced. "Uh, gimme a sec. There's . . . stuff."

Descriptive.

"I'll watch where I step," Matt said returning the grin. "And how often do strangers show up claiming to be your Mom around here?"

"Claiming to be my mother? Hasn't happened yet." Claudia slid some of the bits and bobs aside with her shoe. "I did have a kid show up and say he was mine, though. Apparently it happens every year. The genderswap thing happens every now and then, too. It's weird, but it doesn't usually last longer than a couple of days."

Matt let out a sigh of relief. "Good to know. Was not looking forward to that conversation with my Dad. Listen, I hate to ask but is there someway I could borrow some clothes? I feel like I'm dressed up like a clown."

"Wait. Did you say kids?"

"You mean you want in my pants?" Claudia asked. Then immediately groaned. "Please forget I ever said that. You can totally borrow something." She headed over to her closet to sort through it. "And yeah. Well, mine was just the one, but there were kids showing up for practically everybody."

Sorry Claudia. Matt wasn't forgetting that statement anytime soon. That might be evident from the smile on her face.

"Kids showing up. Okay. Different," Matt said with a shrug. "Since I woke up with breasts and lacking other parts I'm in not state to question that."

It could be worse. Claudia could have said something really dumb.

"This one time," she offered, "I turned into a purple pony. This place really changes your whole concept of 'weird'."

Matt laughed. "Okay, I don't say this often but that... that I would have loved to see."

Then he sighed. "I really do appreciate you helping me out with the clothes. When I get back to normal I'll find a way to pay you back."

"We could always go for coffee sometime," Claudia proposed. "You don't even have to change back first." She pulled a couple shirts out that she thought might fit his girl body. "Here's some purple ones. I have a lot of purple. Or turquoise." Not that he probably cared about the color. "They're bright, but I promise they won't make you look like a clown."

"I'm quite okay with purple," Matt said agreeably. "And also coffee. Or dinner if you're up for it. Throw in a pair of pants and you might get a movie.

She cracked another grin.

"Though you'd have to tell me everything going on screen so that might suck for you."

"Only when the other people in the theater start throwing popcorn at me for talking." Claudia handed over the shirts. "I can do pants, but a skirt might be easier. You're a little shorter than I am, like this."

Matt blanched for a second before shrugging it off. "Oh well, I got the parts I might as well go all in, right?"

"That's the spirit!" Claudia grinned, pulling out a nice, simple gray a-line skirt. "Don't worry, long hems are in, right now. You won't have to show off too much leg."

Not that she thought Matt's legs weren't show-off worthy.

Not that she'd thought that much about Matt's legs.

Er.

Hey Matt's legs were awesome! And totally thinkable.

"Thanks," Matt said breathing a sigh of relief as she took Claudia's clothes. "Would it be too much of a problem if I changed here?"

Okay, he might be doing that to see if Claudia would flail.

What? It's cute when she's flustered.

Claudia's eyes went wide, and she blushed furiously, but there was thankfully no literal flailing of arms.

"Sure!" Okay, that might have come out ever so slightly squeaky. "Absolutely! Change away!"

"Thanks," Matt said turning her back to Claudia and pulling off her sweatshirt and t-shirt in one pull over her head. "I had hoped my roommate might be kind to share but that turned out to be a hopeless wish."

Claudia was good. She looked away as well. "Well, she does rearrange your furniture. That doesn't really sound like the 'caring and sharing' type. But, hey, you get the revenge of looking awesome."

"I do?" Matt asked with a grin as she put on Claudia's skirt. "Because all I know is I have longer hair and other parts. Or were you talking about your clothes?"

"Well, my clothes are definitely awesome. But you're mostly just totally hot." She was just going to have to get used to permanently blushing, wasn't she?

Pretty much yeah. Not that Matt minded.

She finished getting dressed and then turned around to walk over to Claudia.

"I'm just going to say the clothes is what makes that happen," she said. "As well as the beautiful girl who usually wears them."

She grinned.

"And if it isn't too awkward I would like to show how thankful I am for said clothes."

Claudia was pretty sure she now could not possibly blush any harder than she was right now.

"Oh! That'd be fine. Not awkward at all!"

Matt couldn't help but grin even more. She reached out to pretend and find Claudia's face and then leaned in for a kiss.

Claudia moved to meet him halfway.

Yeah, she could totally get used to this, permanent blushing and all.
