Room 317, Saturday evening

Claudia had managed to lose her little stalker twice during the day -- but Stan was nothing if not persistent, and he managed to follow her all the way back to the dorms, where she proceeded to try to ignore him while he puttered about with her stuff, giving her tools a whir and basically pressing as many buttons as possible.

It was what he did.

"Geez, stop fidgeting," Claudia said finally. "Just . . . go online, or something."

It might be a long weekend.

"Is not," Claudia protested. Though even she had to admit he really kind of was. "Where's your enigmatic rugrat?"

"Oh, when I said 'too', I meant generally," Peter said. "I myself seem to be blessed with the knowledge that I know birth control methods in all possible futures. Or something like that."

"Or maybe you're sterile." Claudia had to. Peter walked straight into it.

Stan snorted and ducked his head into his hands. His mom was talking about sex stuff!

"I think we're scarring your other universe self's offspring," Peter said. "Do you think she'll charge us for any therapy?"

"Considering how much therapy I'm going to be in? I think she'll call it even."

"She's mad 'cause I won't tell her who Dad is," Stan explained. "But I can't. It'd cause a paradox."

"A pair of doctors? Well, now we know what Claudia really likes," Peter said, fully expecting something to be thrown at him.

Claudia did, in fact, throw something at him. Peter was lucky, it was just a muffin. "Don't encourage him."

Peter laughed, obviously enjoying himself. He didn't even mind getting muffined. "At least the kid doesn't trust you implicitly because you resemble his mother at a younger age," he pointed out. "That shows he's actually pretty smart."

"I'm a genius," Stan said. "I have a paper to prove it." Because no one ever believed him when he just told them.

"So am I," Peter said. "What's the IQ, little guy?"

Hey, he was actually getting along with this kid. Amazing!

"157. But I was taking the adult level test."

"Hey," Claudia said, grinning. "Maybe you're his father."

Peter barely bit back the line that any kid of his would be more handsome.

"Given his complete 'who are you' reaction, either I died in a horrific accident before he was born, or he's the best kid actor since that kid who saw dead people."

Hey, Claudia thought Stan was kind of cute. He'd grow into those glasses.

"Okay, yeah, he's definitely not that good of an actor."

"So sorry, you can't quite pass off fake-parental duty onto me," Peter said with a grin. "It's pretty noble, I guess. How everyone is effectively taking in these kids just on the basis of them thinking that students kind of resemble their parents."

"Mom doesn't kind of resemble my mom. She is my mom." Stan folded his arms. "It's time travel."

Peter shrugged. "We've only got your word on that," he said. "Sorry. Just a little suspicious, to me."

"Well," Claudia said. "He did successfully get into the government database I've been working on. And he talked about my brother."

"Well, that's useful," Peter said. "Wait, what database have you been trying to break into?"

That was suddenly the most important part of this whole conversation.

Stan looked up at Claudia and madly shook his head. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, you can't tell him, it's --"

Claudia clapped her hands over his mouth. "Little late for that, kiddo." She looked back up at Peter. "I told you about it before, I think? The facility in South Dakota, where the guy who was with Joshua when he disappeared works."

"Right," Peter said, more than a little amused at Claudia's 'parenting'. "So this means you might actually know more about that stuff soon? Like actually have a plan?"

"I'm thinking a small team for a strategic infiltration. 'Cause Scully and Jake would kill me if I went alone."

"Well, I wouldn't kill you," Peter said. "But if there's a way I can help, let me know."

He quickly raised a finger. "A way that isn't babysitting, I mean."
