Claudia's side of the room had been even more taken over with random electronics than usual. She was about halfway through putting together an intelligent light for the new theater director, and kept having to reign herself in from trying to make it too complicated. It was hard enough getting everything lined up in a reasonably compact casing without trying to throw in an excess of pattern storage. Turned out, manipulating light was kind of hard.

She'd probably welcome an interruption at this point, before her brain exploded.

So it shouldn't be a complete surprise that Jake was bad at talking. Actually, it should be rather obvious that he was since he'd spent the whole of the week hiding it out and trying to figure out what the hell he'd been thinking.

Which had led to a lot of mocking from his pack, until they got sick of it. Not as sick as they were about some other girl angst, so there was progress at least.

Or something. He had no idea, but he figured he might have to just bug her when she wasn't at the store. So yeah, her door was getting knocked on.

"Yeah-huh," Claudia called. Because clearly the knock was a question that required a vaguely affirmative answer.

The stupid mirror wouldn't angle right. It wasn't her fault.

. . . and yes, she was possibly diving hard into a techy project to avoid thinking too much about certain events now almost a week old, why do you ask?

He didn't ask, but maybe she should have told him no then.

"Yeah-huh to you too," he smirked as he opened the door. He was guessing he could come in. "You look busy."

Claudia jumped just a little. She hadn't expected him to come by. "Busy, no, I mean, yeah, okay, kinda time consuming and the dude gave me till Wednesday and --" Breathe and try that again, dear. "Hi, Jake, what's up?"

Slightly better. Less with the manic.

It shouldn't be reassuring to have her be nervous, right? It kind of was, making it that much easier to look casual. He was good at casual.

"I figured I'd come see how you're doing," he said with half a shrug and half a smile. "You're not making bombs for someone, are you?"

"You're the one who told me I should make a tank," Claudia pointed out. He was doing casual. She could do casual. "I'm making an automated light for the theater. If he likes it, he'll let me mess with all the other lighting, too."

"Cool, I bet you'll knock his socks off or something," he grinned at her.

Okay, now he was getting nervous again.

"Hopefully not by electrocuting him." And him getting nervous made her a little nervous. They made quite the pair, these two.

Oh yeah, they could go around in circles like this.

"Hopefully not, no," he agreed. He moved over towards where she was sitting, pretending to study the light. "So how've you been?"

"Good," she said. "I'm good. You know, quiet week. . . . You?"

"Yeah. Sort of," he was kind of staring at her shoulder now. She had nice shoulders.

"I've been thinking."

Claudia glanced at her shoulder, wondering what he was staring at. "Should I be afraid?"

"I dunno." He should just look at her, right? Otherwise this was just going to continue getting weirder.

"Probably, you're talking to a werewolf and all so it'd be sensible to be afraid."

Claudia snorted at that. "Right, 'cause you'd totally go all wolfy and growly on me."

He raised an eyebrow, and maybe he really should be warning her off of him. Sam had thought so.

"There's a risk, yeah," he said seriously. "Not right now, but if I get pissed off? Yes."

Claudia considered that, then shook her head. "You're a good guy. I don't think I have to worry."

"That's not how it works," he said wryly, and he sighed. "That's not what I'd been thinking of."

"So . . . you're not here to be pissed off at me. Good to know."

Claudia was kind of lost, here. Was he trying to talk about. . . . Well, he could just say it, right?

Apparently, he couldn't.

"Why would I be pissed off at you?" he asked instantly, using any excuse to get distracted. "No, I... Do you think it was a mistake?"

"What? I -- no! You're the one who brought up being pissed off."

"Not related to that!" he objected, and he was sucking a lot at this. "I liked that!"

Claudia wasn't exactly handling it well, either. "Yeah, well, so did I!"

No, they were well worth each other by now.

"Fine then!" he snorted as the stupidity of the situation caught up with him. "So you didn't mind?"

"Dude, I basically told you to, the second time."

"Right. I knew that," he did, just... Shhhhh. "So you wouldn't mind if it happened again?"
